Google Chrome, Your New Best (Free) Friend

Google’s Chrome browser has risen through the ranks of browsers to become the most popular choice among Internet users, but it does a lot more than just pull up sites. Google was nice enough to include something called Developer Tools with Chrome that allows you to inspect, test, monitor, measure, and analyze your site. In short, you can get just about all the information you need on a site to figure out how to fix problems, make changes, and more.

These tools are perfect for working through a number of the different problems site owners face when trying to troubleshoot or improve their domains.

  • Need to figure out which CSS element controls a certain link or image? Right click on the item in question, select “Inspect Element”, and then see all the associated CSS in the bottom right.
  • Site loading problems? Open up the Developer Tools while on the Console tab and see what errors show up when you refresh the page.
  • Want to modify the code to see what happens? Make changes to your HTML and CSS right in Chrome and get a real time preview of what the site will look like.

Commative adds another Magento theme to its popular Ultimento product

Ultimento Natural Magento ThemeIt is a busy weekend here at Commative. Not only have we just launched a very useful Magento Twitter feed extension to help keep your Magento store fresh and up to date by including recent twitter feeds. Today, we included an additional color theme to complement Ultimento’s existing themes and home pages. This new Natural Magento theme from Commative includes a wrap effect around the top navigation bar, a more “natural” green look as well as a more textual background effect.

With this latest color palette and the three home page layouts already available with Ultimento 3, all Ultimento customers now have nine different choices of unique Magento templates (and all of it available within you own Magento admin panel with a few clicks). And that doesn’t even begin to include the customization options that comes with Ultimento to make the site fit your particular look and feel with just a few easy edits.

Google’s Shopping Promotion

As we mentioned earlier, Google is rapidly transitioning its shopping search functionality to an AdWords style listing system. Yes, it will mean you’ll have to spend money to get listed on Google product search, but you’ll also be able to add a wealth of product information to that feed, showcase your store, and will gain visibility to more data and pre-configured analysis than ever before.

To help with this migration Google is running a new promotion where store owners can get  10% off all ads through the end of the year if they create new listings by August 15th, 2012!  Additionally, existing Product Search merchants can get a $100 AdWords credit simply by filling out a form by August 15th, 2012.

WARNING! Zend Framework Security Alert!

It’s not the end of the world, but pay attention, this is important.

No software is impervious to bugs and sadly Magento is no exception. Magento is built on the Zend Framework in which a new system vulnerability has been discovered, and you should take the necessary steps to protect yourself.

This security issue has already been addressed and a patch already exists for both Magento Community and Magento Enterprise editions. If you’re able to upgrade you can also move to the latest editions of both packages which already have the fix incorporated.

Ultimento 3.1 Officially Released!

Commative is happy to announce the release of Ultimento 3.1! This is our first major update to Ultimento 3 and it brings way more to the table than just bug fixes.

Super Exploded Menu – We took our Exploded Menu and made it Super with static block integration! Now you can include images, videos, anything you want into your menus to really catch your customers’ attention.

New Home Pages – We created two new homepage layouts to give you a different starting point for making your site look more product focused or promotional.

Lazy Loader – We’ve modified our lazy loader to be more streamlined than ever. Images will intelligently load only when needed so customers wont see a slowdown even on image heavy pages.

Twitter Integration – Twitter is now more flexible than ever. Dynamically integrate your Twitter feeds anywhere on the site with a few simple lines of code.

Various Fixes – Yes, even we have bugs from time to time and we’ve cleaned up a few minor issues that were reported by users. See our release notes for more details.
